Philosophy aims at the logical clarification of thoughts. Philosophy is not a body of doctrine but an activity.
A theory which is not refutable by any conceivable event is non-scientific. Irrefutability is not a virtue of a theory (as people often think) but a vice.
It is the theory that decides what can be observed.
True art is creation, and creation is beyond all theories.
Whenever a theory appears to you as the only possible one, take this as a sign that you have neither understood the theory nor the problem which it was intended to solve.
Scientific theory is a contrived foothold in the chaos of living phenomena.

I cannot help fearing that men may reach a point where they look on every new theory as a danger, every innovation as a toilsome trouble, every social advance as a first step toward revolution, and that they may absolutely refuse to move at all.
